AUDIO PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

The Audio Professional Program is a unique course that will allow students to work in a state-of-the-art training facility to learn and develop the fundamental skills required to work in the music and entertainment industry, focussing on the areas of sound production.

In year 1, we develop a foundation skill set through learning both theoretical and hands-on elements to sound production. In year 2, students will have the opportunity to further develop and apply their industry experience. These areas include both a recording studio and live setting, assisting in the recording and production of a professional EP release and mixing bands through a series of gigs and performances throughout the year. 

The Audio Professional Program combines a CUA50820 Diploma of Music (Sound Production) in year 1, CUA41220 Certificate IV in Screen and Media, across year 1 and 2, and CUA60520 Advanced Diploma of Music (Sound Production) (Year 2)*.

Duration: 2 years (2nd year optional)
Delivery: Full time – 3 days per week in Geelong

CUA60520 Advanced Diploma of Music (Sound Production)

Year 1

AIM: Allow students to gain proficiency in studio recording, live sound production, and Pro Tools recording software.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to:

Record and mix bands in professional recording studios

Develop mixing skills with analogue and digital recording equipment, giving them experience mixing in multiple formats

Develop an ear for sound and critical listening skills

Gain a globally recognized software certification – Pro Tools 101

Learn live mixing for the front of house and side of stage monitoring during a multitude of solo and group performances, using both analogue and digital consoles

Gain an understanding of :

studio hardware setups

the use of industry-standard outboard equipment

microphone selection and positioning for both studio and live sound applications

At the end of year 1, a certificate for CUA50850 Diploma of Music (Sound Production) will be issued, if all units are deemed competent.

CUA41220 Certificate IV in Screen and Media is delivered across both years 1 and 2. The units delivered in year 2 are delivered on the same day to ensure students are able to complete the Certificate IV components if they don’t wish to go on to the Advanced Diploma (Sound Production).

Year 2

AIM: Provide students with the opportunity to apply the skills developed in year 1 to real-time industry projects.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to:

Assist with the stage set up and live sound engineering at College events

Use state-of-the-art recording studios, recording, producing and mixing multiple projects in various contexts including assisting on a commercial release

Create and develop an ongoing relationship with bands/musicians by working together on pre-production and live performances

Utilize Oxygen’s ‘open-door’ policy to experiment, troubleshoot and gain experience using a myriad of microphones, plug-ins, mixing desks, DAW platforms and live sound systems

Gain an understanding of sound design and apply it to film and theatre projects

Learn the workflow and application required for an audio professional in post-production

Gain a globally recognized software certification – Pro Tools 110

* Year 2 of the Audio Professional Program is optional. The initial commitment is 12 months with Year 2 requiring a re-interview to assess student’s goals against course outcomes.

CUA41220 Certificate in Screen and Media will be continued on from year 1 and delivered along side CUA60520 Advanced Diploma of Music (Sound Production)
