The Professional Artist Program is a nationally recognized, 2 year, full-time, visual arts course dedicated to developing artists to prepare for making and exhibiting artwork. The course nurtures students in their quest to become practicing artists in the Arts industry.
The Professional Artist Program is aimed at Students who:
Are passionate about developing their own unique style as a visual artist
Value creativity and the exploration of new and progressive ideas
Wishing to gain inspiration and confidence through networking and collaborating with other visual artists
Are not afraid of hard work to maximize the course’s industry and production opportunities
Aim to be emerging visual artists who are motivated to develop their craft into a viable and sustainable career
Duration: 2 years (2nd-year optional*)
Delivery: Full time – 3 days per week in Geelong

CUA51120 Diploma of Visual Arts
CUA60720 Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts
AIM: To allow you to explore and extend your creative practice whilst gaining confidence in developing as a unique and original visual artist.
KEY OUTCOMES
Students develop through:
Trialing art mediums and using new techniques
Ongoing drawing and painting skills practical classes
Learning printmaking approaches and processes
Undertaking life drawing sessions
Engaging in constructive feedback sessions
Gaining insight into art history and contemporary practices
Undertaking gallery and exhibition visits
Participating in visiting artists workshops and talks
Working in a communal studio environment with other peers
Setting up and managing art exhibitions
Writing artists statements, grant applications, and media releases
Producing a theme based major body of artworks
Gain an understanding of:
Practical art-making methods
Analytical frameworks for interpreting artworks
Art gallery procedures and exhibition management

*Students that opt to only complete Year 1 will receive certificates for both CUA41320 Certificate IV in Visual Arts and CUA51120 Diploma of Visual Arts if deemed competent in all units.
AIM: To prepare students for the real world of visual arts by continuing to explore and enhance their existing knowledge and skill by taking part in real time industry experiences.
KEY OUTCOMES
Demonstrate an excellent understanding of how to refine drawings to a high level of finished quality
Display a sound knowledge of art history with a strong ability to discuss contemporary art theories concepts
Complete paintings to a high level, with a deep understanding of colour theory
Have a current understanding of the art industry and have a business strategy to eventually move forward with as an artist or creative
Work with a team of peers to produce collaborative artworks
Equally, have an ability to function independently in a studio environment
Strive within an art gallery context, with a sound understanding of exhibition practices.
Further develop a substantial individual body of artwork exploring areas of personal interest to produce resolved artworks. As a result, this body of artwork will be ideal to present to galleries upon completion
* Year 2 of the Professional Artist Program is optional. The initial commitment is 12 months with Year 2 requiring a re-interview to assess the student’s goals against course outcomes.
