FULL TIME COURSES

Professional Artist Program

Course Overview

The ‘Professional Artist Program’ is a two-year course that delivers three qualifications combined – in year one students will study a CUA41320 Certificate IV in Visual Art and a CUA51120 Diploma of Visual Arts combined to form a full-time study load. In year two, students will then progress to a CUA60720 Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts.

In the first year of the program we take emerging artists and build a foundation to their existing creative technique. They will trial a variety of art mediums, have access to facility and mentoring and develop alongside other likeminded artists. In the second year, we continue that journey and in addition look to facilitate real industry outcomes along with ongoing coursework.

The course has been designed to turn individuals into the best artist they can be, whilst also providing opportunities for a variety of career paths within the creative industry.

Describe yourself and your endeavor as a creative person?

I am a person who loves the ocean and its creatures and painting/drawing them fulfils me. The colours of some of the creatures fascinate me.

Why did you decide to study with Oxygen College?

A friend recommended Oxygen College to me and I did the first course which was so good that I stayed for five years.

Explain why Oxygen College was of benefit to you on your journey?

From the first day in class I felt the desire to help from all teachers. They all found my creativity and brought it to the surface. The teachers are experts in their field and assist all students to be the best at their craft. They went above and beyond my expectations.

Did being part of the Oxygen College community have benefits?

The opportunity to talk about our work, sharing processes and individual practices in how work was created, in a supportive environment was very beneficial to the development of my craft.

What are you doing post study?

I am practicing my craft full time now. I’ve also been involved with several shows over the last couple of years, that have opened up more opportunities for me to learn, and has paved the way to where I am now. And I’m currently in the middle of preparing for a show at the Hue & Cry Gallery towards the end of 2023.

Describe yourself and your endeavor as a creative person?

I am a solo artist, who likes to explore a eclectic range of interests. I don’t see myself as solely an illustrator or painter, and I find expressing myself through any type of art form; the most satisfying experience.

Explain why Oxygen College was of benefit to you on your journey?

The trainers that I had, were very encouraging in pursuing ideas and concepts. Also once finishing the Professional Artists program, it opened up other pathways that gave me confidence to explore within my own creative practice.
